The Uganda Catholic Women’s Bureau started the implementation of a project known as PROMIC UGANDA on 1st September 2002. Funded by Foundation Open Hand – Swiss Hand from Switzerland. Caritas Lugazi Diocese is implementing Promic project. The Diocesan women’s desk is obliged to identify the qualifying women groups to enable the project coordinator start training. Identified qualified women in their respective parishes are trained in financial and business management skills before they are given loans. The principal objective of the project is the empowerment of hundreds of individual poor women, persons with entrepreneurial skills and willing to work hard. Thus make an efficient contribution to poverty alleviation in families, villages and project region. Challenges

Inadequate resources to cover all the Parishes in Lugazi Diocese.

Since most of the clients are farmers, they at times find difficulties in repaying the loans on time due to unreliable seasons.

Monitoring of the program constantly has proved to be difficult due to lack of transport facility and increasing fuel prices.

Some women can’t access the loans as they don’t have collateral due to acute poverty.

Clients who fail or refuse to pay back the loans on time leading delayed program activities.

Some clients lost their businesses due to effects of Covid19.

Progress of the Program

Continued entrepreneurial training amongst the clients.

Beneficiaries involve their family members in activities they carry out.

At least 75% of the clients have changed their attitude towards business management.

At least 80% of the supported clients have increased their incomes by 40%.

Increased group cohesion and team work among the women groups.

Future Plans

Constant monitoring of our clients’ business enterprises.

Continue working in collaboration with parish leaders, local leaders and women leaders, who have helped us identify the right people (clients) to deal with.

Supervise the progress of the program by the project committee.

To enroll more women in the program.
