Welcome to Caritas Lugazi

Caritas Lugazi is the Social pastoral arm of Lugazi Diocese mandated to design and implement development activities. It aims at improving the social and economic conditions of the people irrespective of their cultures, religious affiliation or political affiliations. The department is inspired by the sacred scripture, tradition, and social teaching of the Catholic Church.

Caritas Lugazi operates in four districts of Mukono, Buikwe, Kayunga and Buvuma Islands. The organization is headed by the Director who is responsible for all her activities in the Dioceses. Major programme activities include sustainable agriculture, health specifically HIV/AIDS, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, education, micro finance, care for the elderly, orphans and widows, environmental sustainability, income generation, human rights and research and advocacy.

All our activities have been implemented in line with the six thematic areas namely:

PROMIC PROJECT

The Uganda Catholic Women’s Bureau started the implementation of a project known as PROMIC UGANDA on 1st September 2002 Funded by Foundation Open Hand – Swiss Hand from Switzerland. Caritas Lugazi Diocese is implementing Promic project. The Diocesan women’s desk is obliged to identify the qualifying women groups to enable the project coordinator start training. Identified qualified women in their respective parishes are trained in financial and business management skills before they are given loans....

SANITATION IN SCHOOLS

SUSTAINABLE AGRI PROMOTION

With the support received from Caritas Italian through Caritas Uganda, Caritas Lugazi diocese empowered 15 women households between 18-50 years i.e., 8 farmers between 18 to 35 years and 7 farmers between 36 to 50 years in Buvuma Islands, Kitamiro Sub Parish, Central Uganda with the goal of improving their livelihoods through increased volume of production with sufficient food, resilience to climate change and incomes.
